Did you receive an energy efficiency kit or assembled one yourself at an event?
Learn below about how to install the pieces in your kit. Installing the entire kit can save you around $5-$10/month on your utility bills
(that’s a free lunch every month!).
Upgrading with an energy efficient kit is a great first step. To save even more, check out our Energy Check page to see what free programs and resources you qualify for.

LED Light Bulbs (x3)
LEDs offer the same brightness as traditional bulbs, but consume less energy and last longer. If you have bulbs that get hot to the touch (called incandescent bulbs) they are perfect to replace with LEDs. Turn off power/switch, unscrew the old bulb, and screw in the new LED. You start saving money immediately!

High Efficiency Showerhead (x1)
How does saving water help my electric or gas bill? Well it takes A LOT of energy to heat your water. In fact, your water heater is typically the second largest consumer of energy in your home after your Heating and Cooling. So if you can reduce the hot water used, while keeping good pressure, then you save money every month on water heating costs. The showerhead in your kit allows 1.5 gallons of water to flow per minute (gpm) at high pressure, less than standard showerheads.
Note: You may need a pliers or small wrench to remove your old shower head.

Faucet Aerators (x2)
Just like your showerhead, reducing water flow while increasing pressure means less water is used every time your run the sink. These faucet aerators can be installed on bathroom faucets to save water. Note: You may need a pliers or small wrench to remove your old faucet aerators.

Switch and Outlet Insulating Sealers (x10)
Switch and Outlet Insulating Sealers eliminate drafts, insulate, and help you save money on your utility bills. They help keep cold air from coming in through your outlets and switches in the winter, and keep hot air out in the summer. It is best to install in all outlets and switches on your exterior walls (walls that face the outside) Simply use a screwdriver to pull the outlet plate off, pop out the foam pieces so the outlet and switch can come through, and place in the outlet. Screw the cover back and you are all set!

LED Night Light (x1)
Night lights typically stay on all night, so why use ones that run up your bill? This LED night light uses just .3 watts of electricity (that’s like .50 cents a year!). So unplug your old night light and use the one in your kit, especially if your old night light gets hot to the touch (a sign it consumes too much energy).
